*Miami: Through the Lens of Street Fashion - Week 13
Having a nearby zoo is a luxury we often take for granted. It had been years since either of us had been to Zoo Miami (formally known as Metro Zoo) and boy did we have fun shooting this post there. We wanted this post to inspire people to visit the beautiful spots in their city, while unwinding and admiring nature. I've always been a huge fan of being a tourist in your own city and a zoo visit was a great way of fulfilling that!
As stated by Annie on her blog, "In this shoot, we see our subject soaking in a very animated monkey exhibit. Smartly dressed with binoculars in tow, she represents how we need to approach the world as a student in awe of it’s beauty instead of rushing around all the time." What better way to be fashionable and in theme than with this Marc Jacobs print!

These are a few of my favorite things (like in the sound of music) no but seriously, they are. Lately I've been drawn to these kind of blouses sans shoulder fabric and although I already own three with the same silhouette, I had to have this one. In my eyes, Nasty Gal can do no wrong and this top is no exception. I finally wore my Unif inspired - Forever 21 high low skirt and these awesome sandal wedges courtesy of MIA shoes. (What a great shoe for this outfit, no?) Add a little color in the form of this gorgeous wristlet bag by Navoh and voila, outfit complete!
On a side note, goofball chic is my expertise. I'm no good at the serious yet glam look, so showing you my personality is my way of surviving being behind the camera ;)
Last night, I participated in my first-ever live stream hangout via Google plus! The fashion chat, hosted by local blogger and gal pal Kelly Saks, focused on the favorite summer looks and trends of bicoastal bloggers (#eastwestfashion). We were joined by LA blogger, Hazzle Andrade, who was an absolute sweet heart to chat with.
Didn't get to see us live? No worries, check out our footage here:
I had so much fun chatting with these lovely ladies. It was so cool to see how we were all in sync with what we're loving this summer and how our styles are so similar even though we're so far from the west coast. This is one of the outfits I chose and find inspiration in. I cannot wait to recreate it, it's so perfect for Miami!

Fun fact: Billy Idol shot a music video in Coral Castle, in 1987

This week we bring you a second look at Coral Castle, but this time we take a more touristy approach... a stylish and fun loving approach! Just like the explorer portrayed in these shots, Annie and I continue to visit new areas in exchange for beautiful imagery and fun experiences. We never skimp out on having fun when shooting these. Matter of fact, we laughed so hard as I tore my American Apparel leggings while sitting (spiderman-like) atop a coral lump to capture the third pic. Note to self: Coral Castle has real coral, that will rip your pants! (Thank god for long shirts, ha!)
If technology wasn't as worldly, we'd send you a postcard of the third image to read: "Wish you were here. PS. Karla tore her pants shooting this!"

It's been a pretty busy week for me and I'm just getting around to posting these. I'm aware some of you might have already seen these pics on Annie's blog but I couldn't break tradition and not post our project on the blog this week.
We did this shoot in Coral Castle located near Homestead. Little did I know there was a Coral Castle in Miami, but Annie suggested it and I was all in. It was pretty amazing learning the history of how it was built. Could you believe this man-made structure is a labor of love? Check out the whole history, as beautifully written by Annie. Also, how cool is the Florida sitting area?!

As you can tell from this post, I'm very into neon. Sometimes I want to wear everything neon at once, but that wouldn't be too appealing, or would it? In this case, I mixed two different hues of neon all for the sake of making my oxfords look feminine. My boyfriend's first impression of these shoes was that they looked too masculine for me, so every time I wear them I like to mix and match feminine and masculine (bib necklace does a great job at this) while maintaing a comfortable look. I also incorporated a vibrant pink lip color to tie in with the pink bag.
This outfit is definitely a go-to for a chill day to night activity. I love mixing neon with the tribal-like pattern from my skirt, also another great summer trend.

We're both pretty excited to share this post with you! We had been itching to shoot in Little Havana for some time now and finally got around to it this weekend. While initially Annie wanted to hone in on the Cuban culture that shines through the small city, I had a different direction in mind.
We drove around in circles till I spotted this eerie looking home that had just the right amount of character to juxtapose Annie's tropical outfit. Don't be fooled, the abandoned home didn't feel inviting or safe, but the architecture definitely drew us in and made for a lovely photo opp. Matter of fact, the only signs of life in this home were the ever so camera ready black cat and the white rose that lay next to the iron gates.
I really love the way the hula hoop adds a fun element to such a spooky place, especially in the shot where it's in the air.
